You may now show your proof of no-fault auto insurance coverage from your cell phone or other electronic devices when stopped or in an accident in Michigan.
Governor Rick Snyder approved the House Bill 4193, that will allow motorists to share the proof of auto insurance document to police through a capable electronic device.
You will no longer need to carry a paper hard copy of your proof of insurance. This action was made possible due to the government believing this will lead to better law enforcement and be more convenient for drivers. They are ready to move from paper into electronically used documents.
This Bill includes the protection of privacy of the drivers. Officers will be prohibited from viewing any other information on the electronic device. The driver may be required to send the electronic copy of the insurance document via e-mail, allowing the police officer to view it other than on the drivers phone.
